🦴 Yeti’s Corner

So here’s the deal – sometimes we Great Danes like to climb on tables. I know, I know, it sounds crazy because we’re huge! But trust me, we have our reasons. Perhaps something is exciting up there, or maybe we want to be at your eye level so we can have a proper conversation.

Look, I get that finding a 150-pound dog on your dining room table might be a little shocking. But before you start yelling, remember that we’re just trying to explore our world! We don’t always realize how big we are, and sometimes we forget that what works for our tiny Chihuahua friends doesn’t work so well for us tree-sized pups.

The good news is that you can help us learn better manners! We want to make you happy – we need some patient teaching. When you train us with kindness and perhaps some tasty treats, we’ll definitely understand that tables are human territory.

With a bit of teamwork, we can figure this whole thing out together. I promise we’re not trying to cause chaos on purpose. We just want to be good dogs and maybe get some belly rubs along the way!

🦴 How to keep your Great Dane comfortable in ANY season (even if they wish it was always couch season)

Keeping your Great Dane comfy—365 days a year (from a gentle giant who’s lived it)

Hey, human! Yeti here—your oversized, opinionated, totally honest Great Dane from GRDane.com. If there’s one thing I know (besides the location of every treat jar in the house), it’s how much the weather can mess with a giant dog’s comfort. Some days, I’d vote for ONE season only: couch season. But life’s not that simple—so here’s the straight scoop on keeping a gentle giant happy, safe, and snuggly all year long.

Summer: Avoid the meltdown

Big paws + hot pavement = disaster.

  • Walk me early or late—before the sun turns sidewalks into doggy griddles.
  • Water, water, WATER. A full bowl (bonus points if you drop in ice cubes).
  • Shade is my BFF—think giant houseplant with a wagging tail.
  • Watch for heavy panting, droopy energy, glazed eyes—those are your warning signs. Heatstroke is real (especially for huge, short-nosed pups like me).
  • And let’s be honest: sometimes the best exercise is zooming from the sunbeam to the air conditioning vent.

Winter: From gentle giant to marshmallow

Despite my size, my short coat is basically worthless against the cold.

  • Yes, I rock a winter coat (and look fabulous doing it). Insulated doggie vests are a MUST.
  • My giant frame needs bedding that’s thick, soft, and WARM—otherwise, I’ll steal your heated blanket.
  • Short walks, quick potty breaks. My paws aren’t made for skating rinks.
  • Booties? If you can get them on, my toes will thank you.
  • If you see me shivering, bring me IN—I’m not a polar bear, I’m a snuggle bug.

Rain, mud, and the chaos in between

  • Keep towels by the door: I WILL track in half the yard if you’re not ready.
  • Wipe paws after every walk—mud = mayhem for floors and giant toes.
  • Rainy day? Try puzzle toys, treat hunts, or snuggling on the couch. (I’m a pro.)
  • Pro tip: a drool towel is always a good idea—weather extremes bring out my inner slobber monster.

All-season musts for gentle giants

  • Space to flop: I need room for questionable yoga poses and full-body stretches.
  • Routines: The Weather will mess with our plans. Be flexible—swap a walk for hide-and-seek or stair sprints when needed.
  • Watch for signs: Overheating, shivering, extra drool—if you see them, act fast. We don’t handle temperature swings as well as smaller dogs.

Listen to your Dane (I mean it!)

I don’t always communicate in words, but my body language speaks volumes. If I’m seeking shade, shivering, or glued to the vent, PAY ATTENTION!

🎧 “Four Seasons? I Vote for Just One: Couch Season.” — real talk about climate, comfort, and living the giant dog dream no matter what the weather throws at us.

Your quick-reference checklist:

  • Walks: Early/late summer, short/frequent winter
  • Water: Always fresh
  • Bedding: Big, soft, warm
  • Gear: Coats for cold, booties for ice, towels for rain
  • Enrichment: Toys, games, indoor fun when the weather stinks
  • Health: Watch for overheating, shivering, sore paws, drool disasters

Bottom line:

Every season brings its own brand of chaos. A little prep—and a lot of love—keeps your gentle giant safe, happy, and always ready for a nap (preferably on your favorite spot on the couch).

See you (in the sunbeam, or under a pile of blankets)!
